Kayaking

TIME: 3.00 Hours
LONGITUDE: 8,6 Miles
DIFFICULTY: Medium

HOW TO GET THERE:
We reach the starting point from Sant Josep, in the direction of Eivissa along the road (PM-803), at 5 km from Sant Josep (KM 7 of the road) we will fi nd the turning to Sa Caleta, we continue along this local road until we reach the turning for Sa Caleta on the right; we will continue along the dirt track on the lefthand side which takes us to the fi shermen’s port.

Along the Eivissa road to the Airport (PM-801), passing Sant Jordi until reaching the Airport entrance where we take the turning to the right and follow the signs to “Sa Caleta” we will reach the same local road, in this case on the left, encountering the previous turning which takes along the path leading to the beach.

CROSSING:
We leave this beautiful fishing port, whose beautifully preserved dry dock huts make it one of the most picturesque of the Pitiusas. We navigate Westwards bordering the small peninsula where there are remains of the Phoenician settlement.

Immediately we will see the beach of Es Bol Nou, unmistakable by its redwalled cliff frame surrounding it. A little further on, we will see some fishermen’s huts erected on these im-pressive red clay cliffs.

We continue bordering the coast round the slope of Puig de Es Jondal until reaching the tip of Es Jondal; which we will border with extreme care on days of rough sea.

We are now entering the magnificent bay of Es Jondal where we come across a lovely stretch of cliff s and small coves, where we can sight hawk nests among other things.

Afterwards we come to the beautiful pebbled cove of Es Jondal, where we will come across restaurants and all the facilities required to obtain the blue fl ag granted to beaches with contrasted quality. Immediately afterwards we will discover Es Xarco, a small cover with its fi shermen’s huts and restaurant. We then continue navigating next to the cliff s until we reach the point of Porroig. Before reaching the end of this point we will see a pass between rocks, which taking extreme care we will be able to cross through to the other side.

Once inside the bay of Porroig, we will fi nd several fi shermen’s huts and a sandy beach. It has to be remembered that both in the bay of Porroig and in the previous ones of Es Jondal and Es Xarco, we can come across private yacht traffi c and other vessels particularly in the tourist season; although navigation is usually quite calm because it is well protected from the Northern and Western winds by the high cliffs.
